Follow these steps to legally purchase and use fireworks on Cracker Night 2026
You must be 18 years or older to apply for a fireworks permit in Tasmania.
Bring proof of identity (Category A & B documents) and $93.50 for the permit fee.
Submit your application in person at any Service Tasmania outlet before May 8, 2026.
Select either 7:00pm - 7:45pm OR 7:45pm - 8:30pm for your 45-minute display.
You must notify your local council and all adjoining neighbours at least 7 days before.
Important distance and safety regulations you must follow
Firing point must be at least 50m from neighbouring homes and roads
Minimum safe distance for spectators from the firing point
Distance from privately owned livestock (requires owner consent if closer)
Required distance from wildlife park boundaries
